Giving the Gift of Safety


It’s the holiday season. The rush is on, the shelves are being emptied and your wallet is being strained. What will your loved ones find under the Christmas tree this year? Will there be joy and laughter as the family gathers? Or might the gift be a new wheelchair paid for by workers’ compensation as the result of a workplace accident? Will this year’s joy be replaced by sadness and worry, with questions of whether or not recovery from the accident will allow you to return to your job? This is not the traditional picture we envision for the holidays. But sadly, it is one too often borne by our fellow workers and their families as they face the future with uncertainty after a serious accident has occurred.

Basics of Workplace and Employee Safety


Those who manage our denominational entities must be actively involved in an employee safety program. They must express their commitment by providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees.Often the employee is the first to recognize a potential hazard and he or she should feel comfortable that, when brought to the management’s attention, safety issues will be addressed and corrected before an injury occurs.

Evaluating Employee Safety


How much responsibility do you have to maintain your employees’ well being? Maybe more than you think. Employers are required by the Occupational Safety and Health Act to protect their employees from accidents and injuries while on the job. Laws compel employers to afford the right of workers compensation to individuals who are injured on the job.
