Hayrides
Hayrides can be great fun, but they can also pose great danger if basic safety rules are ignored. The following are minimum safety measures that should be maintained; they include, but are not limited to the following:
• Provide adequate supervision to prevent horseplay and to ensure that no one attempts to get on or off the wagon while it is moving.
• Avoid the use of public roads, roads with steep hills or with excessive curves - Where public roads must be used, require a follow-up vehicle with four way flashing lights (hazard lights).
• Sideboards and end panels are essential to prevent riders from sliding off.
• Riders must keep arms and legs inside the wagon to prevent injury from trees or brush.
• Proper lights front and rear are to be used at night.
• Experienced driver of vehicle used is a MUST! (tractors, trucks, horses, etc.)
• Only the driver should be allowed on the tow vehicle unless additional seating is provided by the manufacture.
• Speed should not to exceed six miles per hour.
• Be certain that you have a secure means of latching the wagon to the tow vehicle.
• Keep up with the proper maintenance of the vehicle and wagontractor PTO units should be monitored.
Most importantly: COMMON SENSE USE IT !!!
