elimination period
A period of time (usually a number of days) that the insured must wait before disability benefits are paid.
emergency
A medical emergency is the sudden onset of a medical condition that becomes evident by acute symptoms of sufficient severity or severe pain, such that a prudent person who possesses an average knowledge of health and medicine, could reasonably expect that the absence of medical attention would jeopardize the person’s health, seriously impair bodily functions, seriously damage any bodily organ or part, or result in death.

Proof that a person is an insurable risk.
