On February 4, 2015, it was reported that a cyber attack targeted Anthem, Inc., a Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurer, that contracts with medical providers in 14 states. Independence Blue Cross reports that its records were not affected but both companies are working together to verify which member records were impacted.
Why is this important?
While NAD Healthcare has transitioned to AETNA, member records may be affected because of Independence Blue Cross’ affiliation with Anthem. However, member data at Independence Blue Cross was not compromised, nor any member data at Adventist Risk Management, Inc.
If your personal information was affected by this cyber attack, you will receive written notification from Independence Blue Cross through the US Postal Service. This notification will provide specific instructions on how to enroll in credit monitoring and identity protection services at no cost to you. If you are contacted any other way, please be aware of scams that appear to be legitimate but intend to capture personal information.
