Silver Spring, Md. December 1, 2016 – Antonio (Tony) Vargas has been named chief information officer at a recent Adventist Risk Management, Inc. (ARM) board meeting held in Silver Spring, MD. Vargas’ extensive experience in large-scale application systems, cyber security and technology forecasting, will be put to use meeting the needs and fulfilling the vision of ARM.
Vargas has experience working with local municipalities to address network administration, developing processes and standards, and creating strategic partnership with local and federal agencies. His 25 years of experience includes more than 12 years in government, public safety, healthcare and education sectors. Vargas has also served within the Seventh-day Adventist Church as Network Administrator for Pacific Press Publishing. During his time there, he implemented plans that dramatically reduced costs in the company’s Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system, as well as designed and deployed a disaster recovery site.
Vargas was brought in to review ARM’s technology systems in 2011 as an expert in assessing deficits in stability, recovery and institutional requirements. Upon review, he created processes for vital backup systems, developed a disaster recovery site and addressed Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) security concerns with a plan that was implemented on time and under budget. Vargas was most recently Information Technology Manager for ARM, a position he held for two years.
“[Vargas] will continue to implement practical, effective and strategic plans to make our technology more user-friendly for our employees and secure for our clients,” Tim Northrop, president and CEO of Adventist Risk Management, Inc.
“Our commitment to keeping our ministries safe is sometimes handled by departments that work in the background, such as the role of our IT department in keeping our equipment secure,” said Tim Northrop, ARM president and chief executive officer. “With Tony Vargas at the helm as CIO, I’m confident that he will continue to implement practical, effective and strategic plans to make our technology more user-friendly for our employees and secure for our clients.”
